Settings

Every setting, in the order the settings tab shows them.

Open Settings → Matters that Matter. Every setting is also found by Obsidian’s settings search.

Below the header, a row offers the Calm Matters theme (Get the theme), or says it’s in use.

Folders

Setting Default What it does
Matters folder MTM/Matters Where new Matters are created
Actions folder MTM/Actions Where new Actions are created
Boards folder MTM/Boards Where new boards (.base files) are created
People folder MTM/People People here are suggested first for @, and new people are created here

Changing a folder never moves existing notes; it only changes where new notes are created. Renaming a folder in Obsidian updates these settings.

Quick add

Dates in Spanish On Reads dates such as viernes 10:00, el martes que viene and el día 5

One of them always stays on. See Dates in quick add.

Other tools

Setting Default What it does
Let links add Actions On Links that start with obsidian://mtm-add can add Actions, from Shortcuts, launchers, other apps or your own notes. They can’t change or delete anything, and each one shows a notice. See Links

Below it, a line points to Connect other tools: scripts and AI assistants can work with your Matters too, through the command line and an MCP server.

Statuses, Action types and Spheres

  • Statuses: the columns of the board, in order. Drag to reorder; set each one’s label, colour and category; choose the backlog and done statuses. See Types and statuses.
  • Action types: the colour and icon of every Action. One is the default.
  • Spheres: groups of related Matters. See Spheres.

Deleting a status, type or Sphere in use asks where its Actions or Matters should go.

Sync

The plugin’s settings are a file in your vault’s .obsidian folder. Let it sync along with your notes, so every device shows the same statuses and types. A device that hasn’t received new settings yet shows badges on the Actions it doesn’t recognise, and rewrites nothing. On a device with your notes but no settings at all, setup reads them back from your notes: see Reinstalling, or a new device.
