Spheres

Group related Matters into the spheres of your life, such as Home, Work and Family.

A Sphere is a label with an icon, defined in settings. Each Matter is in one Sphere or none. Without Spheres, every view looks as if they didn’t exist; add them when you have enough Matters to want some order.

Set them up

Add, rename, reorder or give an icon to Spheres in Settings → Matters that Matter → Spheres. Their order there is their order everywhere. Deleting a Sphere that Matters use asks where those Matters should go.

Give a Matter its Sphere when you create it, or later:

  • drag its lane into another Sphere’s band on the board, or
  • choose Move to Sphere… in the lane’s menu.

On a board focused on one Sphere, new Matters start in it.

On the board

Each Sphere gets a band above its lanes, in settings order, with “No Sphere” last and the Inbox outside them all. The band shows how many of its Actions are in each column, and how many are due today or late. Collapse a band to tuck its Matters away.

Focus

Next to the type chips in each view’s toolbar are Sphere chips, all on to begin with. Turn some off to see only the rest, in every view: board, list, calendar and timeline. The Inbox always shows.

The list and the timeline also group their Matters under Sphere headings.

NoteA Sphere that no longer exists

If a Matter names a Sphere that isn’t in settings, it shows as having none, with a badge on its lane. Select Dismiss to remove the property.
