Changelog

What changed in each release of the plugin and the theme. The same notes appear on GitHub.

  1. Plugin

    1.1.0

Matters that Matter 1.1: cards stay where you put them, reviews remember what you noted, and other tools can add Actions.

    • Cards in your own order. Select Order by hand in a board’s toolbar, and every card stays where you drop it: up or down within its cell, or into another cell at the place you choose; lists can follow the same order (Order by hand in their toolbar too). On the board, right-click a card (touch and hold on a phone) for Move to top, Move up and Move down. Sort automatically goes back to priority, due date and title. The order is kept in each Action’s note, so every board and list in your own order shows it the same way. More
    • Show on board goes to the lane. In a Matter’s overview, Show on board opens the board at that Matter’s lane, scrolls to it and lights its header for a moment. When the lane was out of sight, the board turns the Sphere’s chip on and expands the band and the lane; when the board hides empty lanes or the Inbox, a notice says so instead. On a phone, the board shows that Matter. More
    • Notes for next time. Reviews end with Anything to remember?: one line, kept as a dated line at the end of the Matter’s note. The next review shows it (“Last time, 9 Oct”), and so does the Matter’s overview. More
    • Date languages in settings. Dates in English and Dates in Spanish, in a new Quick add group, choose which words quick add reads as dates. Turn off the one you don’t write in, and its words stay in your titles. More
    • Obsidian links. obsidian://mtm-add adds an Action from Shortcuts, Raycast, Alfred, another app or a link in a note, with quick add’s words or one value at a time. obsidian://mtm-quick-add opens quick add with text in it, and obsidian://mtm-open opens an Action, a Matter’s overview or a board. Links can only add and open: whatever they bring is written as plain text, every add shows a notice marked “From a link”, and more than ten in a minute are stopped. Turn adding off with Let links add Actions, in the new Other tools group. More
    • Connect other tools. A new section of the docs covers every way in: links, the note format with its JSON Schemas for tools that write notes directly, and the new command line and MCP server for scripts and AI assistants, released separately on npm as matters-that-matter. More
    • A menu on every card. Right-click a card on the board for every status, Mark as done or Reopen, and Move to Matter…, as touch and hold does on a phone.
    • The chips setting sticks. In 1.0.0 and 1.0.1, turning off Show links to Actions as chips wasn’t saved, so chips came back the next time Obsidian started. It is saved now.
    • New Matters go after your last one. A new Matter’s lane order is now one more than your last Matter’s. Before, a lane order on the Inbox’s note counted too, which could leave a gap.
    • Safer titles. Dots at the start of a title are dropped, in quick add too, so an Action can’t become a hidden file that Obsidian doesn’t show.
    • Details markers name the plugin in full. The two comment lines around a note’s details now say “Matters that Matter”. Notes with the older wording keep working, and take the new wording the next time their details or checklist are edited.
    • Notes with an odd start keep their properties. Some Windows editors write a byte-order mark at the start of a note; others leave spaces after the closing --- of the properties. The plugin no longer loses those properties when it writes to such a note (Obsidian’s own property writer would add a second block in front), and saving details on a note that starts with a byte-order mark no longer replaces its properties.
    • New notes never take another note’s name. A new Action or Matter gets a name no other note in the vault has (" 2" is added), so it can’t take over that note’s links. Quick add used to check only its own folder.
    • Get the theme works again. The buttons that offer the Calm Matters theme, in setup and in settings, open Obsidian’s theme browser in Obsidian 1.14 again.
    • Settings version 7. The settings file gains Let links add Actions and is upgraded when the plugin loads. Nothing to do; if your vault syncs to other devices, update Matters that Matter on them too.
  2. Plugin

    1.0.1

    • Escape closes the review session again. In 1.0.0 it did nothing; you had to click outside the dialog. While you’re typing in one of its fields, Escape still belongs to the field.
    • The matters block’s + stays clear of Obsidian’s edit button. In Live Preview, the “edit this block” button that appears in a code block’s corner no longer covers it.
    • Docs: links in Live Preview tables and callouts do show as chips; the page said they didn’t.
  3. Plugin

    1.0.0

Matters that Matter 1.0: your Actions now show up in your notes, reviews come with a guide, and the board fits a phone.

    • Links to Actions show as chips. In any note, in reading view and Live Preview, a link to an Action shows its type, its due date (in the today or overdue colour) and whether it’s done. With an alias, the chip shows your words and the Action’s title on hover. A chip is still a link: it opens the note, and Obsidian’s page preview now shows the Action’s banner at the top. Chips update as the Action changes. Turn them off with Show links to Actions as chips in settings. More
    • Actions in a note. A matters code block lists Actions as cards inside any note, from one line in quick add’s tokens: #Kitchen renovation, @Charlie waiting, /call today, plus a few words such as late, next or done. Left empty, it shows a Matter’s or a person’s open Actions on their own note, or what’s due today anywhere else. Its + opens quick add with the block’s tokens in it. More
    • Review Matters. A new command steps through the Matters due a review, one at a time: what was done since the last review, what needs a look (late Actions, long waits, no next Action), and four questions about the outcome, the next step, whether it’s still on your mind and when to look again. Every answer is saved as you give it. Start it from the command, the Today page’s Reviews due, or Review now in a lane’s menu or a Matter’s overview. More
    • A board for phones. On a phone the board shows one Matter at a time: choose it from the pills under the toolbar, swipe through its statuses, touch and hold a card to move it to another status or Matter, and add with the round +. Tablets keep the full board. More
    • Setup picks up where you left off. After reinstalling, on a new device, or in a copied vault, setup reads your statuses, types, Spheres, folders, Inbox and board back from your notes, and changes none of them. If your settings arrive through sync while setup is open, setup steps aside instead of saving over them. More
    • Setup on phones. Setup fits a phone screen, and its warning about statuses or types the new workflow lacks now counts what your notes actually use.
    • Docs and README cover everything above.
  4. Plugin

    0.1.2

    • Calm Matters, the companion theme. Setup’s last step and the top of the plugin’s settings now offer Calm Matters, the theme in the pictures: a warm paper page, Dusk for the evening, a friendly serif for titles and calm, frosted panels. One click opens Obsidian’s theme browser at it; with the theme in use, both show a short confirmation. Matters that Matter still works with any theme.
    • Lighter styles. The stylesheet no longer uses :has() selectors, which Obsidian’s review flags as slow. Nothing looks different.
    • README: the theme, the install steps now that the plugin is listed, and why the plugin reads the list of notes in your vault.
  5. Theme

    2.1.0

First public release of Calm Matters, a calm, colourful theme for Obsidian.

    • Light: a warm paper page, soft platinum sidebars and pastel accents
    • Dusk: deep violet surfaces with lighter pastels, never grey
    • Figtree, Young Serif and JetBrains Mono built in; nothing loads from the internet
    • Pastel top-level folders, tags, highlights, callouts and checked tasks
    • Frosted, rounded menus, modals and command palette
    • Options through the Style Settings plugin: accent colour, folder colours, sans-serif headings, empty tabs

Made to go with the Matters that Matter plugin, whose board, list, calendar, timeline and Matter pages pick up its serif titles, pinstriped headers and calm gradients. Works just as well on its own.

  6. Plugin

    0.1.1

First public release of Matters that Matter.

A Matter is anything worth keeping an eye on; an Action is one step that moves it forward. Both are ordinary notes, shown on a kanban board with swimlanes, a list, a calendar and a timeline, all of them Bases views.

    • Board with a lane per Matter, grouped by Sphere, and a column per status; drag cards between cells
    • List, calendar and timeline views of the same notes
    • Quick add with tokens for type, Matter, people, priority and dates (English and Spanish)
    • Inspector in the right sidebar to edit the selected Action
    • “What matters today?” in new tabs
    • Matter overviews with an outcome, a review rhythm and progress
    • Process Inbox, one Action at a time
    • Banners on Action, Matter and person notes
    • Setup with three workflow presets and optional sample content

Requires Obsidian 1.13 or later with the Bases core plugin turned on.
